Dylan Tyler Anderson (born November 17, 1987 in Lawrenceville, Georgia) is an American musician. He was most notably the clean vocalist of the post-hardcore band Of Machines, where he fronted the group alongside screamer Bennett Freeman.[1] Anderson's other bands have included Soft Powers, Their Eyes Look North, Delorian, Blue Blushed Red, and Bless Me, Ultima.

Anderson possesses a tenor vocal range and has a distinct style. Granted, his high singing voice is notably the biggest thing he is recognized for.

Early life

Dylan was born in Lawrenceville, GA. His number one passion has always been music and art. His mother, who was in a singer in a former gospel trio, inspired him, as Dylan stated in an interview. Dylan also says his father who was an artist would play Bruce Springsteen and Peter Gabriel albums within his art studio, while he and his father would sing along. As a child, he stated that he was always around artistic influences whether it be his mother, father or neighborhood friends. Anderson claims some of his vocal influences are Michael Harris, Cedric Bixler-Zavala, Jonas Bjerre, Darroh Sudderth among a few.[2]

Career

Bless Me, Ultima, and Their Eyes Look North (2005-2007)

Anderson and Mark Tanner who were childhood friends began their ambition as musicians during high school and were a part of a group named Bless Me, Ultima with friends of theirs until musical differences lead to Anderson leaving the band. Following that, Tanner and Anderson collaborated again in a new band named Their Eyes Look North. They soon released their Debut EP "With a Head Like Fire". To support their EP, they played at small venues frequently. Soon after the Clark brothers left due to there beliefs and dissatisfied with the direction, while on a regional tour, that band too disbanded.

Of Machines (2007-2010: 2013-Present)

While on the regional tour Anderson received a call from a band named We Are Kings. This soon led to them joining and adding them to the roster of members. Before being signed by Rise Records, the band traveled to Chango Gridlock studios in Florida in an old van with a video recorder to document the making of their first EP as a new band. While recording its album, the band impressed several labels while selecting Rise, to which they were signed on October 14, 2008.[3] The first album, As If Everything Was Held in Place, was released on March 3, 2009.[4][1] After that, the band was almost constantly touring across the United States, supporting such bands as Attack Attack! and Burden of a Day. Unfortunately, Of Machines broke up in April 2010, after a chain reaction of departures starting from Bennett, to Dylan, and then to Jon. They were also dropped from Rise. This is when they decided it was time to go. They put the rest of their demos, T-Shirts, and merch on their website. They were never heard from again. However, On January 9, 2013 it was announced that "Of Machines" were reunited to make one last album with the original line-up. After creating a tumblr dedicated to the new album entitled "Chroma Dreamcoat". They created it so fans could help donate some money for the budget of the album. About $2,100 were raised by the end of it. On May 26, 2013, they posted that they would be doing a live video chat on Ustream at 9:00 P.M. (Eastern Time.) On that chat they revealed new information about the new album, including the fact that the album would contain 7-8 songs. They also confirmed that if they were going to start a tour, they would tour with Native Suns.

Soft Powers/Solo Work (2010-2013)

After a period of time recouping from the disbanding of Of Machines, Anderson made a leap to a genre entirely different from his post-hardcore roots.[5] Accompanying him was newly found friend Bo Fletcher. Anderson to embrace the role of reluctant frontman adding vocals, guitars, and drums/programming, while Fletcher took on keyboards, guitars, bass, and programming. Their sound has been described being skewed with lo-fi, neo-psychedelic pop tendencies with detached realms of robotic post-punk and new wave song-craft. The group played a handful of shows in Europe backed by an Amsterdam label called NON Records. Anderson has recently relocated to Florida, and parted ways with former bandmate Bo Fletcher. Since moving, Anderson has posted some solo work and singles on SoundCloud.
