Duncan McFetridge

Duncan McFetridge (born 27 January 1952) is an Australian politician representing the seat of Morphett in the South Australian House of Assembly for the Liberal Party since the 2002 election. He was re-elected at the 2006 and 2010 elections. He currently holds the seat with a margin of 9.9% following the 2012 State Electoral Boundary redistribution.

Duncan McFetridge grew up in the Adelaide suburbs of Elizabeth and Salisbury. He attended Salisbury High School, and then went onto study at Teachers College. Duncan was a high school teacher for four years, teaching woodwork and metalwork at Port Augusta and Minlaton High Schools.

In 1979 Duncan began studying veterinary science, graduating in 1982. He then worked with racehorses, and later in horse and livestock transport. Duncan then ran a veterinary practice in the Chandlers Hill/Happy Valley area.

He is currently the Shadow Minister for Communities & Social Inclusion; Volunteers; Disabilities; Social Housing; Youth; Mental Health & Substance Abuse; and Suicide Prevention. Duncan has also previously held the Shadow portfolios of Transport and Infrastructure; Aboriginal Affairs; Police; Correctional Services; Emergency Services; Road Safety; Health; Substance Abuse; Veterans' Affairs; Industrial Relations; Science & Information Economy; Industry & Trade; Education & Children's Services; the Arts; Tourism; Local Government; Recreation & Sport; Consumer Affairs; and Small Business.

Duncan was a member of the Aboriginal Lands Parliamentary Standing Committee from 2003 to 2010 and was re-appointed in 2012. He is a member of two House of Assembly Select Committees - Dogs and Cats as Companion Animals; and Review of the Retirement Villages Act 1987. He was also Deputy Opposition Whip in the House of Assembly from 2002 until 2004.

Duncan is a former captain with, and member of, the Country Fire Service and a member of many other community clubs including Rotary. His other interests include sailing, surfing and personal fitness. Duncan is married, with two adult children and has two grandchildren.
