The Down-With-Imperialism Union, or DIU, was founded on October 17, 1926 by Kim Il-sung, in Huadian City, Jilin Province, China, in order to fight against Japanese imperialism and promote Marxism–Leninism. It is considered by North Korea to be the roots and foundation of its ruling party, the Workers' Party of Korea.
