History

Dongseo University was founded in 1992 in the spirit of Christianity, with an emphasis on Truth, Creativity, and Service as fundamental academic values. The name originally given to the school was Dongseo University of Technology (hangul: 동서공과대학 hanja: 東西工科大學 ); however, in 1996 the name was officially changed to Dongseo University. At the time of its establishment, Dongseo University offered undergraduate degrees in 8 majors. Currently, it offers undergraduate degrees in 53 majors and graduate degrees in 16 majors. Dongseo University was founded by Dr. Sung Man Chang (hangul: , hanja: ) and the Dongseo Educational Foundation. The following four educational concepts and three visions for academic excellence were set by the Founder in 1992 and have continued to serve as an educational philosophy guiding school policies.

Four Educational Concepts

  1. Compassionate Education: Foster virtues based on love, service and responsibility.
  2. Global Education: Foster a global mindset along with foreign language skills enabling students to communicate as global leaders.
  3. Information Education: Foster information processing abilities needed in the era of information.
  4. Industry and University Co-Education: Foster an industrial-academic cooperation system benefitting its members and their communities.

Three Visions for Educational Excellence

  1. Globalization: Through close international collaboration, Dongseo University will focus on providing education meeting global standards. It will also establish multi-faceted, international joint degree programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
  2. Specialization: Through an advanced infrastructure (now including the Graduate School of Digital Design and IT, the Digital Image Design Innovation Center (DIDIC), the Regional Technology Innovation Center for Ubiquitous Computer Graphics Application (U-RIC), and the Im Kwon Taek College of Film & Performing Arts), Dongseo University will foster talents of digital innovation for the 21st century.
  3. Informatization: Through a ubiquitous information-based system (U-Campus) involving a high-speed gigabyte network, Dongseo University will provide students with familiarity working in high-tech environments using mobile-based systems.
