Donald "Don" Close is a former Coal miner, and professional rugby league footballer of the 1960s, playing at representative level for Great Britain, and at club level for Huddersfield, as a Hooker, i.e. number 9, during the era of contested scrums.

Playing career

International honours

Don Close won a cap for Great Britain while at Huddersfield in 1967 against France.[1]

Challenge Cup final appearances

Don Close played Hooker in Huddersfield's 6-12 defeat to Wakefield Trinity in the 1961–62 Challenge Cup final at Wembley Stadium on Saturday 12 May 1962.[2]

Testimonial match

Don Close's Testimonial match at Huddersfield took place in 1968.
