Dominion is a rock band originally formed in Manila, The Philippines in 1994. the band is cited as a main influence in Filipino styled "Goth" rock music by the media and its fans, some of their songs are in Tagalog, a Philippine language.

Quickly differentiating themselves from current bands of that era by both their appearance, imagery and musical style, this type of dark audio-visual experience was not common in the Philippines since the 1980's when "new wave" music was the main radio staple of that era.

Their dark style and appearance in a mostly Catholic country gained them notoriety as well as negative perceptions by religious sectors and establishments, despite the dire conditions, the band proceeded with various shows and developed a loyal cult following.

Not long after playing the Manila live circuit, the media took notice and the band were featured on Channel V/MTV Asia and were broadcast to thousands of viewers in Asia, not common for an independent band of that time.[1][2]

Despite their Independent status The band is noted to be one of the First Independent acts to have toured Nationally as well as to receive Mainstream press on Philippine TV ,Magazines and Newspapers , The band regularly cites The Cure, The Sisters of Mercy, The Cult, Bauhaus,Peter Murphy and Fields of the Nephilim as Major influences, but elements of progressive rock and metal can sometimes be heard on some of their songs, recently their reverbnation page describes their music as "Gloom rock".

History

In 1997, Major label Alpha Records invited the band to work with them on a CD compilation entitled The Alpha Numeric Sampler, and the band's cult track "Within These Walls" was released to the public, Unfortunately this track was released without the band's input on mixing which the band felt was a watered-down version of its own song, this incident ultimately led to the last time the band ever worked with a Major label again.

Subkulture Records, an Independent label, was later formed to release Dominion's music exclusively. The EP Hand of Cain was released by the band, which included a proper remixed track of "Within These Walls". Philippine rock magazines such as Pulp and Lemon celebrated the band as "Pioneers of Philippine Goth Rock", as well as newspapers also featuring them as such.[3] The band, although Independent, was then sponsored by the likes of Colt 45, Jack Daniels, Axe cologne, San Miguel Beer and Philippine Airlines. Dominion were considered as one of the first Independent rock bands to tour Nationally.[4]

The band later shared stages with Japan's Eve of Destiny and Közi (ex-Malice Mizer).[5]
