"Dolphins Were Monkeys" is the second single from Ian Brown's second solo album, Golden Greats. Released on 7 February 2000, it placed at number five on the UK Singles Chart. The single edit is also featured on Brown's compilation album, The Greatest. The cover was designed by artist Ian Wright as was the cover of all singles from the album and the album cover itself
The b-side of the CD (but not the 7-inch single) features Ian's version of "Billie Jean" by Michael Jackson. This was included after Ian received letters and emails from fans requesting that his version of the song be released, after he performed it live.
