Dinhata subdivision is a subdivision of the Cooch Behar district in the state of West Bengal, India. It consists of Dinhata municipality and three community development blocks: DinhataI, DinhataII and Sitai. The three blocks contain 33 gram panchayats and one census town. The subdivision has its headquarters at Dinhata.

Area

Apart from the Dinhata municipality, the subdivision contains one census town and rural areas of 33 gram panchayats under three community development blocks: DinhataI, DinhataII and Sitai.[1] The only census town under this block is Bhangri Pratham Khanda.[2]

Blocks

DinhataI block

Rural area under DinhataI block consists of 16 gram panchayats, viz. Bara Atia bariI, Dinhata VillageII, GosanimariII, PutimariI, Bara AtiabariII, GitaldahaI, Matalhat, PutimariII, Bara Soulmari, GitaldahaII, Okrabari, BHETAGURII, Dinhata VillageI, GosanimariI, Petla and BhetaguriII.[1] Urban area under this block comprises one census town: Bhangri Pratham Khanda.[2] Dinhata police station serves this block.[3] Headquarters of this block is in Dinhata.[4]

DinhataII block

Rural area under DinhataII block consists of 12 gram panchayats, viz. BamanhatI, BurirhatII, Kishamat Dasgram, Sukarukuthi, BamanhatII, Chowdhurihat, NajirhatI, Barasakdal, Gobra Chhara Nayarhat, NajirhatII, BurirhatI and Sahebganj.[1] There is no urban area under this block.[2] Dinhata police station serves this block.[3] Headquarters of this block is in Sahebganj.[4]

Sitai block

Rural area under Sitai block consists of five gram panchayats, viz. Adabari, Chamta, SitaiII, BrahmottarChatra and SitaiI.[1] There is no urban area under this block.[2] Sitai police station serves this block.[3] Headquarters of this block is in Sitai.[4]

Legislative segments

As per order of the Delimitation Commission in respect of the delimitation of constituencies in the West Bengal, the Dinhata municipality, DinhataII block and BhetaguriI, Dinhata VillageI, Dinhata VillageII and PutimariI gram panchayats of DinhataI block together will constitute the Dinhata assembly constituency of West Bengal. The other twelve gram panchayats of DinhataI block, viz. Bara AtiabariI, GosanimariII, Bara AtiabariII, GitaldahaI, Matalhat, PutimariII, Bara Soulmari, GitaldahaII, Okrabari, GosanimariI, Petla and BhetaguriII will form the Sitai assembly constituency along with the whole area under Sitai block. Sitai constituency will be reserved for Scheduled castes (SC) candidates. Both constituencies will be part of Cooch Behar (Lok Sabha constituency), which will be reserved for SC candidates.[5]
