The Dikhit, also known as Kinwar, are a Hindu Rajput clan found in the state of Uttar Pradesh in India.

Origin

The clan gets its name from the Sanskrit word dikshita which means "the initiated". They are said have given the name by Rajah Vikramjit of Ujjain about 50 B.C. They claim to be Suryavanshi Rajputs of Ayodhya. The founder of the clan was a Rajah Durg Bhao, who is said to have immigrated from Ayodhya to Gujarat in the remote past, where his descendents were known as Durgbansis. One of his descendents, a Rajah Kalian Sah entered the service of Rajah Vikramjit of Kanauj, was initiated into the royal household. The clan thus became known as Dikhit. There chief was a Rajah of Samoni in Banda District, with cadet branches in Unnao and Pratapgarh.
