Dietrich Schöneboom (9 December 1917 – 23 October 1943[Note 1]) was a German U-boat commander in World War II and recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross (German: Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes). The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross was awarded to recognise extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership.

  1. Sources are inconclusive with respect to date of death. Some sources indicate that Schöneboom was killed on 23 October 1943 (Fellgiebel and Range) while Kurowski lists him as killed in action on 30 October 1943.[1][2][3]
