Diego Poyet (born 8 May 1995) is a professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Charlton Athletic.[1][3]

Club career

Poyet made his professional debut on 21 January 2014 in an FA Cup third-round win over Oxford United, entering the match as an 81st minute substitute.[4] He made his first league start for Charlton on 1 February 2014 in an away fixture at Wigan Athletic.

International career

If given the opportunity, I have no doubt that I would play for Uruguay.

As a Spanish-born Uruguayan raised in England, Poyet is eligible to play for any of these three countries.[2] He has represented England at under-16 and under-17 levels[3] but has declared a wish to represent Uruguay if the opportunity arises.[5]

Personal life

Poyet's father is Gus Poyet, a former Uruguay international footballer and the current manager of English side Sunderland.[2]
