Diabolik Lovers (ディアボリックラヴァーズ Diaborikku Ravāzu)~Haunted Dark Bridal~ is a Japanese visual novel by Rejet. It was released on October 11, 2012 for the PlayStation Portable. A fan disc entitled Diabolik Lovers More Blood featuring 4 new characters was released on October 24, 2013. A 12-episode television anime adaptation by Zexcs aired from September 16, 2013 to December 9, 2013.[1] The new third game called "Diabolik Lovers Dark Fate" features two more characters and will be featured in 2014.
Gameplay
Diabolik Lovers is classified as an otome game; like most otome games, the player takes the role of the main female character. In this case players take the role of Yui Komori (小森 ユイ Komori Yui, - name is changeable), who can choose from a variety of male characters as her love interest.
In Diabolik Lovers, every playable character's route is split into three sections: Dark, Maniac and Ecstasy. Each of these three sections is split into a prologue, ten subsections, and an epilogue. There are three possible endings for each character.
Plot
The heroine, Komori Yui, was a normal teenage girl. In her second year of high school, Yui's father, a priest, moves somewhere else for his work. As a result, Yui is forced to move to a new town and arrives alone at a mansion she was told will be her new home. As she approaches the front door it begins to rain. Because no one answers her knock, she reaches for the knob, but the door swings open of its own accord. Yui enters the mansion to find no one in sight. As she starts to explore her immediate surroundings, she finds a young man asleep on a couch. He wakes up as she approaches him and promptly pins her down. As she begins to panic, five other young men gradually appear. Yui notices something different about all of them. She discovers that all six of them are brothers but by three different mothers, later revealed to be Beatrix (mother to Shu and Reiji), Cordelia (mother of the triplets Raito, Kanato, and Ayato), and Christa (mother to Subaru). However, these young men don't seem quite human. In fact, they all turn out to be vampires.
Characters
- Yui Komori (小森 ユイ Komori Yui)
- Voiced by: Rie Suegara (anime)
- She is a kind and gentle 17-year-old student who used to live with her father, a priest who owns his own church. After her father moved elsewhere for work, she was forced to live in a mansion with six mysterious brothers who are actually vampires. In the beginning she was skeptical of their supernatural nature, but came to find no other solution. In a struggle for survival she decides to live with them while bearing the fear of being attacked by each of them. Yui's personality varies by the choices the player makes:In the first episode of the anime adaption it is revealed that she is adopted. Later on, Yui is revealed to be the vessel of the triplets' mother, Cordelia, whose heart is inside Yui's body. This explains why all six of the brothers are highly drawn to Yui's blood. At the end of the anime she later becomes a vampire. She is type "O" in blood and weighs 45 kg.
- Shū Sakamaki (逆巻 シュウ Sakamaki Shū)
- Voiced by: Kōsuke Toriumi
- Shū is the oldest son of the Sakamaki household and the current master of the mansion. He is the first son of Beatrix. Shu appears in the first scene (prologue) of Diabolik Lovers when Yui first arrives. Shu is the only of the brothers who seems to have any prior knowledge of Yui's arrival, mentioning "that person" had contacted him asking to have Yui stay with them as a guest. Shu is usually seen sleeping or dozing off in the living room or the school's music room. It has been noted that he skips classes a lot and is subsequently repeating his senior year.According to the students of the school, Shu is the owner of the music room and can always be found there. Apathetic and lazy, Shu is someone who loves nothing but music. Yui needs to use a lot of persuasion in order to get him awake and do something for himself. Shu loves classical music, ranging from piano to violin. He's now somewhat bored with life due to his past. His only friend, Edgar, died in a fire and he was unable to save him, so he thought that his life was limited from humans.
Despite Shu being the eldest, he's never responsible for looking after his brothers and the house. Instead, he mostly pushes these duties onto Reiji.
- Reiji Sakamaki (逆巻 レイジ Sakamaki Reiji)
- Voiced by: Katsuyuki Konishi
- Reiji is the second son of the Sakamaki brothers and the second son of Beatrix. He is very formal, and is generally the most composed aside from Shu. He values rules and demands that the others follow them, even though many of his decrees are odd and self-made. Reiji chooses to be the role model of the house even though he is the second son. Although Reiji has a very polite attitude and almost always acts like a gentleman, he is a man of very harsh words.Along with his passion for experimenting and making drugged potions, he loves to collect kitchenware. This explains his hostility toward anyone who breaks his dishes and his protectiveness of them whenever his brothers or Yui want to use them.
- Ayato Sakamaki (逆巻 アヤト Sakamaki Ayato)
- Voiced by: Hikaru Midorikawa
- Ayato is the third son of the Sakamaki brothers and the oldest of the triplets. Ayato is the first to appear in the first prologue where Yui arrives at the Sakamaki house and stumbles upon him sleeping. He refers to himself most of the time as "Ore-sama" (an overly self-confident and narcissistic way of saying "me" in Japanese, translated to "Yours Truly" in the subbed anime) and he calls Yui "Chichinashi" (The English translation is "pancake" but literally means flat chested).
- Ayato loves to tease, much to Yui's dismay. Ayato is quite the rebel and has a passion for torture devices such as the iron maiden, which can be found in his room. He is also the type who always brags about himself, sometimes commanding everyone to call him Ayato-sama. It is also noted that he eats a lot and particularly loves takoyaki. He is especially possessive of Yui. At the end of the anime he calls Yui by her name in order to wake her up. The anime hints at an Ayato ending, but because the anime is an adaptation of an otome game, an ending with a particular character is not explicitly outlined.
- Kanato Sakamaki (逆巻 カナト Sakamaki Kanato)
- Voiced by: Yūki Kaji
- Kanato is the fourth son of the Sakamaki brothers, the second oldest of the triplets, and is usually referred to as the "problem triplet". Kanato tends to cry often and gets angry when he doesn't get what he wants. He is always demanding something and impatient for his wishes to be fulfilled. If his demands are not satisfactorily met, he often becomes violent, his demeanor changing rapidly.
- That aside, he is quite attached to Yui. Kanato loves to eat sweets, especially cakes. He will not leave his room without bringing his precious Teddy, his best friend, with him. He speaks politely, but is extremely sadistic and tends to display violent outbursts, most noticeably to Yui. He is also shown to be abusive. It is later revealed that after he killed his mother, he cremated her corpse and put her ashes into Teddy.
- Raito Sakamaki (逆巻 ライト Sakamaki Raito)
- Voiced by: Daisuke Hirakawa
- Raito is the fifth son of the Sakamaki brothers and the youngest of the triplets. Raito acts extremely perverted, and his perverted nature has caused him to be suspended many times from school.:Raito is both a Do-M (extreme masochist) and a Do-S (extreme sadist). He is always cheerful and loves to joke but is similar to Ayato when teasing Yui. However, his personality suddenly changes when something goes against his wishes, usually when Yui is too defiant around him. Raito likes to call Yui "Bitch-chan".
- Subaru Sakamaki (逆巻 スバル Sakamaki Subaru)
- Voiced by: Takashi Kondō
- Subaru is the sixth and youngest of the Sakamaki brothers. He is the only son of Christa. Subaru first appears in the first prologue scene of Diabolik Lovers when Yui first arrives. He shows himself when he notices Yui's human scent saying it reduced his precious sleep and comes down to confront where it was coming from. He is usually alone and never cares about whats happening around him.
- Subaru is the silent type. He sleeps in a coffin, which is also inside his room. However, he easily gets angry and resorts to violence, going as far as to break everything when he gets extremely angered. He manages to compress this side when around Yui, but is still prone to outbursts. There is a tsundere side of him that only Yui can see. He's a delinquent type and loves to damage things.
- Richter (リヒター Richter)
- Voiced by Jun Konno
- Richter is the brother of Karl Heinz and thus the uncle of the six Sakamaki brothers. A vampire that once served under Cordelia, Richter now watches over Yui from the shadows. Subaru tends to come into contact with him.
- Tougo Sakamaki (逆巻 透吾 Sakamaki Tōgo)/Karlheinz (カールハインツ Kāruhaintsu)
Voiced by Masataka Sawada Sakamaki Tougo, aka Karl Heinz, is the father of the Sakamaki brothers. He is the husband to Beatrix, Cordelia, and Christa.
- Cordelia (コーデリア Kōderia)
- Voiced by: Akane Tomonaga

- Beatrix (ベアトリクス Beatorikusu)
- Voiced by: Mana Hirata
- Beatrix is Karl Heinz's first wife and the mother of Shu and Reiji. She was killed by Yui's dad, who was under orders of Reiji.
