Dhaunkal (Urdu, Punjabi دھونکل) is a town in Gujranwala district, Punjab, Pakistan.[1] It is located on Lahore-Islamabad Highway, 28 kilometres from the district capital Gujranwala and about 15 kilometres from Gujrat . Dhaunkal is one the biggest and oldest town in tehsil Wazirabad. The old Name of Dhaunkal is Klairian wala or Kot Klairian which was changed into Dhaunkal by a Great Sufi Saint Hazrat Sakhi Sarwar Syed Ahmed Sultan. The population of Dhaunkal is round about 42,000 from which 20,000 registered for Votes casting. All the roads of Dhaunkal are cemented. Due to access of transportation you can move towards Dhaunkal from all over the Pakistan in 24 hours because NHA provides fully access. Water Supply pipeline covers all the town while there is a water purification plants installed for public. A large number of peoples from Dhaunkal was settle in abroad & many of them have overseas Nationality [2]

Land owner of Dhaunkal

There are two main clans Jawanda and Kalair; they are owner of almost 3600Acre & 10 Marla of land from hundreds of years. Rice and wheat cultivation—along with the domestication of cattle, primarily buffalo and Cows—was visible in there farmhouses. Dhaunkal's principal natural resources are arable land and water. About 75% of Dhaunkal's total land area is under cultivation and is watered by the largest irrigation systems of Canals.

Jawanda

The Jawanda clan derives its name from their ancestor named Jawanda. They are from the lineage of Dusal, the brother of King Rawal Jaisal of Jaisalmer.[3] Once a person of Jawanda clan lost his son Dhaunkal Lall during a journey near Klairanwala & his love makes him cry, lot of crying waste his eyes. When the great Sufi Saint Hazrat Sakhi Sarwar comes to Klairanwala he shows his maricle and get back Dhaunkal Lall. He & his father converted into Islam at the hand of Sakhi Sarwar (r.a). Later on Klairanwala's name was changed into Dhaunkal.

Dhaunkal is famous as Sakhi Sarwar ki Nagri (a town of Hazrat Sakhi Sarwar) so 95% of its population is Muslim from which mostly are at Ahle Sunnat while there are also some DeoBandi, Shia and Wahhabi Muslims.

Geography and climate

The climate of Dhaunkal changes quite drastically through the year. The summer periods last from June through to September where the temperature reaches 36-42 degrees Celsius. The coldest months are usually November to February. The temperature can drop to seven degrees Celsius on average. The highest precipitation months are usually July and August when the monsoon season hits the Punjab province. During the other months the average rainfall is roughly 25 mm. The driest months are usually November through to April, when little rainfall is seen.
