Dhananjaya (gotra)
Dhananjaya is a gotra found among members of the Raju community who have their origins in the Indian region now known as Andhra Pradesh. Other Raju gotras include Kasyapa, Vasista, Kaundinya, Atreya, Viswamitra, and Pasupati which are the names of sages.[citation needed] Intermarriage between the various Raju gotras is common.[citation needed]
The Dhananjaya gotra is also found among Rajapur Saraswat Brahmins, Kanyakubja Brahmins, and Goud Saraswat Brahmins.[citation needed]
History
According to Hindu mythology, a king named Dhananjaya [1] ruled Hasthinapur, with Indraprastha as its capital, between 550 B.C and 500 B.C. He was a descendant of Yudhisthira Pandava of the Lunar Dynasty (Chandravanshi).[citation needed] Kota Vamsa kings, the ancestors of Rajus of Dhananjaya gotra, are claimed to be descendants of King Dhananjaya.[citation needed]
