Devarakonda is a Nagara panchayat and mandal headquarters in the Nalgonda district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. Recently, it is given revenue division status also by the govt.
History
Devarakonda fort was a formidable stronghold of the Reddy Kings who constructed this fort in the 14 th century, this fort now stands amidst ruins. A place worth visiting by antiquity lovers it is no more than of archaeological interest. It is surrounded by seven hills and is connected with Nalgonda, Nagarjuna Sagar, Miryalguda and Hyderabad, Srisailam, Mahbubnagar by road.
Demographics
As of 2001 India census,[1] Devarakonda had a population of 37,434. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Devarakonda has an average literacy rate of 72%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 81% and, female literacy is 63%. In Devarakonda, 12% of the population is under 6 years of age. Devarakonda is politically active in telangana area foreseeing the national interests.People in this small town are patriotic and you can see temples welcoming the hill side place. Recently the Government has decided to declare Devarakonda as "Nagara Panchayath".
