Denzil Franco (born 1986 in Saligao in Goa) is an Indian football player who currently plays for Churchill Brothers S.C. in the I-League.[1]

Career

Youth Career

Denzil is a product of the Sesa Football Academy where he was felicitated for being India's outstanding player after graduating from the Academy.

Denzil did his schooling in Lourdes Convent before moving onto to St Anthony's HS Monte de Guirim where he was trained by Saligao legend, Francis D'Souza. His parents are Avelina & Joe Franco.

He has represented India right from the India U-19 level up to Senior level competing in events in Turkmenistan, Bangladesh, Portugal, Maldives, Malaysia, Qatar, UAE and Sri Lanka.[2]

Churchill Brothers

Franco transferred from disbanded Mahindra United to Churchill Brothers S.C. during the transfer window before the 2010-11 I-League season. His first season with Churchill though was hampered with injuries so he only was able to play in eight games throughout his first season with the club, but when he did come on his play impressed many people and he still was able to earn a national team call up.

International

Franco made his international debut for India against Pakistan on March 23, 2011 coming on as a substitute for Gouramangi Singh. India won against Pakistan 3-1. He then started for India in his second match for them against Turkmenistan on March 25, 2011, the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
