David Saxe (born August 29, 1969) is a Las Vegas show producer and theater owner. He produces 12 Las Vegas shows, nine of which play at his V Theater inside the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino. In April 2010, Saxe acquired a second theater at Planet Hollywood, the $34 million Saxe Theater.[1] Saxe Theater opened with its first production, VEGAS! The Show, and is now home to BeatleShow![2] and Michael Turco's Magic & Mayhem.[3] He employs 300 people and owns a 15,000-square-foot (1,400 m2) production studio in the downtown area and opened his new Stripper Bar [4] next to the V Theater.[5]
Biography
Producer and theater owner David Saxe was born into show business. His mother was a dancer in the world-famous Folies Bergère and his father was a bandleader for The Rat Pack. Entertainment became somewhat of a family business for David and his two sisters. He spent his childhood organizing performances for corporate dinners, arranging band instruments, even jerry-rigging theatrical equipment to pull off his own special effects. Blessed with a keen business sense, David slowly took over the financial aspects as well.
Writing and developing acts came naturally to David and at the age of 17, he launched his sister's show Melinda Saxe - First Lady of Magic at Bourbon Street Hotel and Casino making him the youngest producer in Las Vegas’ history.[6] The show flourished, and Melinda became a nationwide sensation appearing on The Oprah Winfrey Show and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
David’s career quickly took off. He opened his first theater in San Francisco and by the age of 30 had produced 25 shows, many of which took the stage in Atlantic City, Lake Tahoe, Branson, Philadelphia and as far away as Japan. In 2004, he acquired the V Theater in Las Vegas and created the most popular “specialty acts” performance in the world, V The Ultimate Variety Show, which is still in production today.
In April 2010 David Saxe took over ownership of the Steve Wyrick theater at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino and renamed the theater Saxe Theater. The Saxe Theater is set to open June 1.[1]
As soon as David started achieving success, he began giving back to the community. He joined ALS of Nevada’s Board of Directors and raised $300,000 for the non-profit by producing the All Star Las Vegas Show each February. Because of these contributions, Mayor Oscar Goodman awarded David the key to the city and declared February 22nd “David Saxe Day.” In 2006, UNLV’s College of Hotel Administration named David “Industry Executive of the Year” for his work in the entertainment field and as an adjunct professor.
Today, David Saxe produces 14 shows and owns V Theater and Saxe Theater inside Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood and was recently named “Producer of the Year” by SEVEN Magazine. He employs 250 people and owns a 15,000-square-foot (1,400 m2) production studio in the downtown area as well as the new Stripper Bar at Miracle Mile Shops.
