David Ronald Pipe (born 5 November 1983) is a Welsh footballer who plays for Newport County, as a midfielder or full-back.

Career

David Pipe spent his early career with Coventry City, Notts County, Bristol Rovers and Cheltenham Town (on loan).[2][3] He was released by Bristol at the end of the 2009–10 season, alongside 14 other players.[4]

In June 2010, Pipe was jailed for 38 months for fracturing the skull of another man in an unprovoked attack in Bristol, in which Pipe smashed a champagne bottle over the man's skull.[5] After his release from prison Pipe signed for Conference National side Newport County in September 2011 on non-contract terms[6] and later a permanent contract. On 12 May 2012 Pipe played for Newport County in the FA Trophy Final at Wembley Stadium which Newport lost 2–0 to York City. In June 2012 Pipe was appointed captain of Newport County.

Pipe captained Newport to a 3rd place finish in the 2012–13 season, reaching the Conference National playoffs. Newport County won the playoff final versus Wrexham at Wembley Stadium 2–0 to return to the Football League after a 25-year absence with promotion to Football League Two.[7]

In June 2013 Pipe was named in the 2012–13 Conference Premier team of the year [8]

International

Pipe earned his one and only international cap for Wales in 2003,[3] having previously earned twelve caps at under-21 level.[9]
