His hitters finished with almost 700 hits and a .310 team batting average, good for 5th in Cougar history.[5]
Rice University (2003-2011)
Pierce joined the Rice staff as a pitching coach in 2003, and quickly coached the Owls into one of the most consistent pitching staffs in the nation. From 2007-2010, pitchers were in the top 20 in ERA. In 2007, the Owls were 4th in the country with a 3.04 ERA. In 2008, they were 10th (3.79) and in 2009 they were 16th in the nation (4.21).[6] His pitching staff ranked in the top 30 in staff ERA for 5 years as pitching coach for the Owls.[7]
