David Peck
David Peck is a Canadian magician, who is active in the academic, entertainment, and international development sectors. He is the Founder of SoChange, the current Vice President of Speroway,[1] and a lecturer at Humber College in Hamilton, Ontario.[2] He has achieved an MA in Philosophy from the University of Guelph[3] in 2004.
He is currently manages SoChange,[4] a social enterprise which works alongside members of the non-governmental community in areas such as fundraising, advocacy, and donor relations. In addition to working to raise the capacity of organizations such as Make Poverty History and Asian Outreach, SoChange has spearheaded events such as "Why Everything Must Change", which brought together prominent social justice advocates in a conference setting,[5] and the Mosquitoes Suck Tour, which collaborates with UNICEF and aligns with the Canadian initiative "Spread the Net" managed by Plan Canada to raise funds and awareness for malaria alleviation efforts in Africa.
In 2007, David Peck was also a co-producer with GAPC Entertainment of the 2006 children's educational TVO Kids show Spellz, broadcast on TVO Kids.[6]
David Peck founded the Mosquitoes Suck Tour in 2008 with fellow comedian Matthew DiSero where they developed an entertaining performance show which aims to captivate school-age audiences.[7] The following year, Peck was named a Global Hero by Verge among 14 men and women who are contributing to make the world a better place.[8]
As a consultant for Asian Outreach in Mongolia and Cambodia, David and his wife, Elizabeth Peck travel often to the region as advocates for Tabitha Cambodia.[9] In his free time he enjoys reading, wine collecting and watching documentary films and is a regular contributor to Newsana.[10] He is also a writer and poet in topics of comedy, development, and ideas.[11]
