David Masters (born 22 April 1978, Chatham, Kent) is an English cricketer who has played for the cricket teams of Kent, Leicestershire and Essex.
David is a very accurate seam bowler who bowls at speeds around 75–80 miles per hour. He had a somewhat inconsistent time with Kent but has had more success with Leicestershire who he joined in 2004, and his current county, Essex.
In 2005 Masters was named as Leicestershire's player of the year after picking up 45 wickets in all competitions, while the 2007 season looks set to be a more successful one. Masters has won the Twenty20 cup twice and has a first class century to his name.
On 20 August 2007 it was announced that Masters would join Essex on a three year contract, and he took 5 wickets on his championship debut for the county in 2008.
On 11 May 2008, Masters took a career best of 5-17 off 4.2 overs in a one day match against Surrey whilst playing for Essex. In the 2009 season he has shown signs of batting potential scoring two half centuries and sharing an 100 partnership with James Foster against Leicestershire.
Since joining Essex, Masters has established a formidable bowler - wicket-keeper partnership with James Foster, where Foster is able to stand up to the stumps to Masters in limited overs cricket. Foster often claims stumpings off of Masters' bowling, which is quite rare for a pace bowler. On 29 July Masters took a career best 8-10 from 7.4 overs reducing Leicestershire to 34 all out and helping Essex to a win by 280 runs in a county championship match.
Masters had undoubtedly the best year of his career in 2011. He finished as the leading wicket taker in domestic cricket with 93 victims.
