David Bonneville
David Bonneville (born 1978) is a London-based film director and screenwriter.
Education and Background
Bonneville received the University of Westminster academic Excellence scholarship for his MA in Screenwriting & Producing. He was also selected for the German Film & Television Academy Berlin directing course in the context of the Gulbenkian Foundation Arts Programme. David also holds a BA (Hons) in Sound & Image, specialising on Television, from the Catholic University of Portugal and Pompeu Fabra University, Spain.
Bonneville kick started his career by assisting the oldest film director alive, centenarian Cannes Palm d'Or winner Manoel de Oliveira in A Talking Picture, starring John Malkovich and Catherine Deneuve. Bonneville has also worked for Raimondo Rezzonico Awarded producer Paulo Branco, Turner prize-winning artist Douglas Gordon, HanWay Films, Universal Pictures and at the BBC.
Films
Cigano aka 'Gypsy' premiered at the Locarno International Film Festival and was Golden Starfish Award nominee at the New York Hamptons Film Festival. Bonneville won the highly competitive Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual (ICA) fund to direct ‘Gypsy’, that also earned a Coup de Coeur Distinction at the Cannes Court-Métrage.
L'Arc-en-Ciel won the Best Actress Award for Sofia Ferrão's electrifying performance at the International Portuguese Language Film Festival and a Jury Mention at the 38th Film Festival of Nations, Austria. Broadcast on Porto TV Channel, it was funded by the Gulbenkian Foundation and the RTP public TV Broadcaster.
Heiko won the Best Short Film Award at the 24th Copenhagen GL Film Festival and a Special Mention at the 10th Slamdance Film Festival, Park City, Utah, USA. The film was also broadcast on Portuguese and Brazilian TV. Heiko was screened at more than 50 festivals worldwide, taking Bonneville to the 58th Berlin Film Festival, and receiving nominations at Toronto, New York, Hong-Kong and Melbourne film festivals. It is distributed in the UK by Peccadillo Pictures.
