David Raimey (born November 18, 1940) is a former running back and defensive back for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers from 1965 to 1968 and the Toronto Argonauts from 1969 to 1974 of the Canadian Football League. He played in two Grey Cups, one for the Blue Bombers and played in another for the Argonauts.
College football and NFL
After a stellar career at the University of Michigan, Dave Raimey was selected in the ninth round of the 1963 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns. Raimey played 5 games for them in 1964 and he opted to go to Canada the following year.
Winnipeg
Dave Raimey was a star running back for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, gradually replacing Leo Lewis, a member of the Canadian Football Hall of Fame, who retired after the 1966 CFL season. Raimey was a Western conference all-star for all four years he played in Winnipeg (1965 to 1968), and an all-CFL all-star in 1966. In 1965, he rushed for 1,052 yards and in 1966, 1,223 yards. He was a member of the Blue Bombers team that played in the 53rd Grey Cup game in 1965, the "Wind Bowl", which they lost to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
Toronto
Dave Raimey was traded before the 1969 CFL season to the Toronto Argonauts, where he played six years up to the end of the 1974 CFL season. In 1969, he was an Eastern conference all-star and a CFL all-star with 829 yards rushing. From 1971 to 1974, Raimey was converted to defensive back, intercepting 15 passes.
CFL career
Over his 10-year career, 6 at running back, Raimey rushed for 5,528 yards on 883 carries for a tremendous 6.3 yard per rush average and 25 touchdowns. In addition to defensive back, he also returned punts and kickoffs.
Post-football honors
As one of the most dangerous running backs in his era, Raimey was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 2000.
