Dave Kraayeveld(born October 26, 1955) was a player in the National Football League for the Seattle Seahawks in 1978 as a defensive end and defensive tackle. He played at the collegiate level at Milton College and the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater.

Early life

Kraayeveld was born David Ray Kraayeveld on October 26, 1955 in Elkhorn, Wisconsin.[1] He played football at Milton College and at the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater. His coach, Rudy Gaddine suggested Gil Brandt of the Dallas Cowboys take a look at Kraayeveld whom Dallas scouts tested and put into their rookie camp for workouts.[2]

Career

As a 23 year old rookie,Kraayeveld was billed as #92 Dallas Cowboys Defensive End for the Denver Broncos Vs. Dallas Cowboys game on August 12, 1978.[3]He joined the Seattle Seahawks on waivers from Dallas.

12th Man

On October 29, 1978, when Denver Broncos missed field goal, a referee flagged the Seahawks for having a 12th man on the field. Kraayeveld was that 12th man. Used to the Dallas Cowboy policy of using the same defense on field goals as the previous down; he remained on the field. The Broncos made good the second attempt to win the game 20 to 17.[4]

Family

Kraayeveld is the father of WNBA player Cathrine Kraayeveld, and is joint owner with his wife, Cynthia and his daughter, of a condominium in Bellevue, Washington.[5]
