Darko Spalević (Serbian Cyrillic: Дapкo Cпaлeвић; born 24 March 1977 in Titova Mitrovica) is a Serbian football player who plays for Serbian SuperLiga club FK Radnički 1923. In Serbia, he is affectionately nicknamed "Spaleti" due to similarities of surname with Luciano Spalletti.[1]

Club career

He had previously played with Serbian clubs FK Trepča Kosovska Mitrovica, FK Priština, FK Bane, FK Milicionar Beograd, Red Star Belgrade, Bulgarian PFC Cherno More Varna and PFC Lokomotiv Plovdiv, Russian FC Dynamo Makhachkala, Hungarian Zalaegerszegi TE, Chinese Henan Construction and Bosnian FK Slavija and FK Olimpik Sarajevo.

Red Star Belgrade

At the age of 24, Spalević was regarded as a bright talent at Milicionar, and was brought to Red Star Belgrade by Slavoljub Muslin in 2001.[2] From 2001 to 2002, Red Star Belgrade was regarded to have one of the best generations of players in the decade, which Spalević said in an interview with Alo was one of the reasons why he was sold by the club so quickly upon arrival.[3] He started the 2001 season in the summer playing both matches against Bayer 04 Leverkusen in UEFA Champions League qualifying rounds.[4] In January 2003, he was sold to Bulgarian side Cherno More Varna.[5]

Slavija

In July 2007, FK Slavija from Sarajevo brought Spalević from Zalaegerszegi TE. During his stay with the club he became the greatest goal scorer to have ever played in the Premijer Liga.

FK Radnički 1923

In the summer of 2010, Spalević joined FK Radnički 1923 on a free transfer. In his first season with the club, he scored 19 goals in 28 games and became the second-best goalscorer in the Serbian First League.[6] Subsequently, FK Radnički 1923 was promoted to the Serbian SuperLiga on 15 June 2011 to the joy of thousands of celebrating all over Kragujevac.[7] He quickly built a reputation in his second season, and Red Star Belgrade defender Nikola Maksimović told the press that Spalević "is an excellent '1 on 1' player."[8]
