Darko Brašanac (Serbian Cyrillic: Дарко Брашанац; born 12 February 1992) is a Serbian football midfielder who plays for SuperLiga club Partizan.
Club career
Born in Čajetina, Brašanac started playing football as a six-year-old in the youth categories of his hometown club Zlatibor, before transferring to Partizan in 2005. Upon arrival, he became a part of youth team coached by Slađan Šćepović and he remained in Partizan youth selections until being invited to senior squad in January 2010.[2]
Brašanac made his competitive debut for Partizan in a league match against Hajduk Kula on 14 March 2010, coming on as an 80th minute substitute for Cléo, a game which Partizan won 2–0.[3] He recorded two more league appearances until the end of the 2009–10 season.
In June 2010, Brašanac signed his first professional contract with Partizan, alongside with Marko Šćepović and Matija Nastasić.[4] On 8 December 2010, Brašanac made his UEFA Champions League debut against Arsenal at Emirates Stadium, coming on as an injury time substitute for Almami Moreira.[5]
In August 2011, Brašanac was loaned to Smederevo for a six-month period.[6] He scored his first goal in a Serbian Cup match against Sloboda Užice. In February 2012, his loan was extended until the end of the 2011–12 season.
Brašanac returned to Partizan in the summer of 2012, after a season-long loan, but was rarely chosen to play in the first half of the 2012–13 season, making only two national cup appearances. However, he got more playing time in the second half of the season, often playing in the starting lineup.
International career
Brašanac played for the Serbian national under-19 team at the 2011 UEFA European Championship. He made his debut for the national under-21 side in 2013, under coach Radovan Ćurčić, immediately becoming a regular member of the team.
