Darcy Kuemper (also spelled Kümper) (born May 5, 1990) is a German-Canadian ice hockey goaltender who currently plays for the Minnesota Wild of the NHL. He was selected by the Wild in the 6th round (161st overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
Playing career
Kuemper played three seasons with the Red Deer Rebels, winning the Del Wilson Trophy in the 2010-11 season as the WHL's top goaltender with 45 wins, a GAA of 1.86 and a SV% of 0.933.[1]
On May 26, 2011, Kuemper signed a 3-year, entry-level contract with the Minnesota Wild.[2] On October 13, 2011, Kuemper was loaned to the Ontario Reign of the ECHL.[3]
Kuemper was recalled by the Wild on November 12, 2011.[4]
Kuemper was also recalled by the Wild on February 12, 2013. After the current backup goaltender for the Minnesota Wild, Josh Harding, stated that he had been feeling symptoms due to complications with his multiple sclerosis treatment, the Wild recalled the 22 year old goaltender to start in net the same night to relieve Harding and to give the Wild's starting goaltender, Niklas Bäckström, a much needed night off.[5] Kuemper made 29 saves on 31 shots to earn his first career NHL win against the Detroit Red Wings on February 17th, 2013.[6]
On May 1, 2013, Kuemper was again recalled by the Wild to serve as a backup for Josh Harding, who was starting as a result of an injury to Niklas Bäckström.[7] On May 7, 2013 Kuemper made his NHL playoff debut[8] when he replaced Josh Harding, who suffered a left leg injury in the first period of a game with the Chicago Blackhawks.[9]
