Danville, Alabama
Danville is an unincorporated community in Morgan County, Alabama in the United States, and is included in the Decatur Metropolitan Area and the larger Huntsville-Decatur Combined Statistical Area.
A noteworthy Danville native, David Donald Albritton, won a silver medal in the high jump competition at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, Germany. His distinguished athletic career spanned three decades and included numerous titles. Albritton would later became a high school teacher and coach, and served six terms in the Ohio House of Representatives. In 1980, he was inducted into the USA Track and Field Hall of Fame. Dave Albritton and Cornelius Bennett were the first African-Americans to hold the world high jump record at 6 feet 9-3/4 inches. Dave Albritton was also the first Alabama native to win a track and field medal in the Olympics.
