Daniel Taub (born 1962) is an Israeli diplomat, currently Ambassador of Israel to the Court of St James's.^[1]

Biography

Taub was born in the UK to a Jewish family, and went to secondary school at the Haberdashers' Aske's Boys' School in Elstree. He then studied at University College, Oxford, University College, London, and Harvard University.^[2] He is also a graduate of the Bnei Akiva youth movement, the largest Jewish youth movement in the UK.

In 1989, Taub immigrated to Israel. During his army service, Taub served as a combat medic and as a reserve officer in the IDF's international law division. In 1991, he joined the Israeli Foreign Ministry.

Throughout his service in the Israeli Foreign Ministry, Taub has played a key role in a wide range of diplomatic, legal and political arenas.^[3]

Ambassador Taub is an expert in international law, with specializations in counter-terrorism and the laws of war.^[4] As Principal Deputy Legal Advisor of Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Taub served as legal adviser to Israel's missions to the United Nations in New York and Geneva, and represented Israel in many multilateral fora.

Taub was extensively involved in the Israeli-Palestinian peace process, helping negotiate most of the agreements reached between the two sides, and heading the Israeli side of the Culture of Peace track of negotiations. He was also an active member of Israel's negotiation team in the Israel-Syrian negotiations. He was a liaison to the UN investigative committee Gaza flotilla raid,^[5] and was involved in dealing with lawsuits against Israeli officials worldwide, especially in the UK.

Taub is also the creator and chief scriptwriter of an Israeli soap opera about a Hasidic sect.^[6]

Taub is a much sought after lecturer on Middle Eastern issues, international law and negotiation theory.^{[citation needed]} He is frequently invited to appear on television and radio, and lectures widely in universities and policy institutes in Israel and abroad. Within Israel's foreign ministry he developed and taught training programs for Israeli diplomats in negotiation strategies and communications skills.^{[citation needed]}

Taub was appointed as the Israeli ambassador to the United Kingdom in June 2011.^[7]

Taub and his wife Zehava have six children.
