Playing Career

England

After leaving school Gwyther began his career at Barnet F.C. representing their under 19's from 2002-2004. Due to his good form and notable performances in preseason[1] he was named to the first team squad for the opening game of the 2004/05 season against Farnborough F.C.[2] as an 18 year old. However before making an appearance for the first team he was signed by Watford F.C.[3] for the remainder of the campaign.

Despite some impressive performances for the Reserve and Academy side[4] Gwyther was released by Watford at the end of he 2004/05 season and rejoined Barnet on trial.[5] However after receiving an offer from John Astudillo the Head Coach of the University at Buffalo, Gwyther opted to head across the Atlantic to continue his career.

United States

Gwyther played for the Buffalo Bulls from 2005-2009, leading the team to their most successful 4 year period in school history. In his four-year career, Gwyther was a 2 year captain and played in 75 games, starting all but one, scoring seven goals and six assists. During this time the Bulls enjoyed their first National Ranking[6] and made it to the Mid-American Conference tournament finals in 2005 and 2007. He finished the 2008 campaign second on the team in scoring with 11 points, netting four goals and three assists in 20 games. For his efforts on the field Gwyther was twice named to the All-MAC regular season and All-MAC tournament teams.[7][8][9] After exhausting his playing eligibility Gwyther was invited to train with DC United[10] of Major League Soccer and the Rochester Rhinos of the USL in anticipation of the 2009 MLS SuperDraft.[11]

Return to England

After graduating with his degree Gwyther returned to the U.K and undertook his Masters at the University of Cambridge where he played for Cambridge University A.F.C.[12] under Che Wilson. He earned full Blue honors by playing in the 2010 Varsity match[13] against Oxford University A.F.C. at Cambridge United F.C.'s Abbey Stadium.[14] During his time at Cambridge, Gwyther spent time training with Mosta F.C. of the Maltese Premier League with a view to a permanent move. However he chose to return to school and complete his studies.

After leaving Cambridge, Gwyther was signed by the Metropolitan Police F.C. for the 2010/11 season[15] and was part of the squad that won the Isthmian Division One South.[16] He re-signed for the club for the 2011/12 season for their first season in the Isthmian Premier Division, scoring his first goal for the club against Concord Rangers F.C.[17]

Return to the United States

After the conclusion of the English season, Gwyther returned to the U.S and signed with the Long Island Rough Riders for the 2012 USL season. He then signed with the New York Atlas, leading the club to back to back U.S National Cup Final Appearances in 2012 and 2013 as well as qualifying for the U.S Open Cup.[18] He scored his first goal for the club against the Hicksville All-Stars in the 2nd round of the U.S National Cup.[19]
