Daniel Fox (born 21 May 1991) is an Australian Paralympic swimmer. He won a silver medal at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in swimming.
Personal
Fox was born on 21 May 1991 and is from Cleveland, Queensland.[1][2] He has an intellectual disability.[1] As of 2012, he was a full-time swimming competitor[1] while also working part-time at McDonalds in his home town.[3]
Swimming
Fox is an S14 classified swimmer.[1] He trains at the Brisbane based Chandler Swimming Centre [1] and is a member of the Chandler Swimming Club.[3]
Fox started swimming when he was a toddler.[1] He started competing in 2009 at a thirteen-year-old and made his national team debut that same year when he competed at the Global Games. At that competition, he earned three gold and two silver medals.[1] He competed in the 2010 World Championships[1] in the men's 200m freestyle event where he finished second.[4] At the 2011 Arafura Games, he won fourfold medals.[1] He earned a bronze medal and three gold medals at the 2011 Can AM Championships in California.[1] He competed in the 2012 Australian national championships.[3] He was selected to represent Australia at the 2012 Summer Olympics in swimming[2][5][6] in the 200m freestyle and backstroke events.[3] Going into the Paralympic Games, he was ranked third in the world and training four hours a day in the pool.[3]
Competing at the 2013 IPC Swimming World Championships in Montreal, Canada, Fox won the gold medal in the Men's 200 m Freestyle S14. .[7]
