Dan Cronin is a Republican who served in the Illinois Senate, representing the 21st district from 1993 until he resigned in November 2010 following his election to the post of DuPage County Chairman. He is also the chairman of the DuPage County Republican Party.

Early life, education and career

Cronin grew up in Elmhurst, Illinois. He graduated from Immaculate Conception Grammar School and Fenwick High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Northwestern University and a juris doctor degree from the Loyola University School of Law. He was Assistant State’s Attorney in DuPage County from 1987 to 1989; Legal counsel for House of Representatives from 1985 to 1987. Partner in the law firm of Power & Cronin, Ltd. of Oak Brook.

Cronin first gained attention in 1991 as an Illinois Representative fighting for tax relief and smaller government.[citation needed] In 1993, he moved to the Illinois Senate, where he pushed legislation to extend property tax caps to Cook County homeowners.[citation needed] He has sponsored and passed legislation to improve teacher competency; was chief sponsor of landmark Chicago School Reform. Moved by the “Baby Richard” case of contested adoption, Cronin sponsored new law focusing on best interest of the child. He was known to be a vocal advocate and sponsor of tough, effective law enforcement legislation, including anti-terrorism and truth-in-sentencing laws.

Personal life

Cronin and his wife, Juliann, have four children: Elizabeth, Sarah, Grace and Danny.
