Dan Hope (born 10 January 1986) is a British mixed martial artist. He is managed by Intensiti Fighter Management and competes in the Cage Warriors Fighting Championship welterweight division [1]

Background

Starting out in Muay Thai aged 18, Hope was UKMF English champion and top 10 UK ranked before crossing over to MMA in 2008.[2] Competing at the amateur level, Hope had notable success suffering a solitory defeat in 13 fights and was UK MMA League's top ranked amateur before he turned professional.[3][4][5]

Mixed martial arts career

Early career

Turning professional within a year, Hope gained attention on the UK domestic circuit accruing a 7-1-0 professional record in only 20 months.

Hope featured on M-1 Global at short notice losing to current UFC prospect Rashid Magomedov [6][7]  but bounced back taking on previously undefeated, former BAMMA and Cage Warriors Lightweight champion, Steven Ray (14-5). Hope dispatched of Ray in 1 minute 20 seconds via armbar.[8]

Thereafter, Hope stepped up onto premier European show Cage Warriors Fighting Championship becoming a frequent feature in the CWFC welterweight division.

Cage Warriors

In June 2011, at Cage Warriors Fight Night 1, Hope returned to 155 lbs after 3 years and faced Jean N'Doye (8-1). N'Doye's boxing proved decisive as the referee stopped the bout late into the third round. The fight garnered domestic and European attention. This would be the last time Hope would fight below 170lbs. [9][10]

Hope then returned in February 2012 at Cage Warriors 46 and took on #2 ranked Ukrainian wrestler Alexander Voitenko (9-4). Voitenko persisted in taking Hope to the mat and despite elbow strikes from the bottom the referee stopped the fight, in the third round.

Hope returned with vigour with a dominating display at Cage Warriors 50 in December 2012. Facing off against highly touted middleweight prospect Avi Jack (6-3) Hope outstruck Jack on the feet. On the ground Hope punished Jack with ground and pound en route to a unanimous decision victory.[11][12][13]

Hope faced experienced striker Gary Kono (10-11) at Cage Warriors 52 in March 2013.[14] Hope won via split decision in a gruelling match. Hope's clinch work and superior ground display was the deciding factor.

Hope stepped in on short notice, to fight UK stand out Tommy Quinn (6-1) at Cage Warriors 62, Newcastle. As such the bout was contested at a catch weight 176lbs. A faced paced but even 1st round saw both men landing significant strikes in a largely kickboxing affair. Round two started the same until Quinn caught Hope with an uppercut which led to a finish. This would be the second Fight of the Night Award Hope would secure on Cage Warriors.

Personal life

Hope originates from Gateshead, England and runs his own fishery management and consultancy business.
