Damián Ariel Álvarez (May 21, 1979) is an Argentine-born Mexican footballer who plays for the Liga MX club Tigres de la UANL.

A left winger, his key attributes are his passing and dribbling. Before joining Tigres, he played for River Plate, Reggina, Morelia and Pachuca.

Club career

Álvarez made his professional debut in Argentina for River Plate in 1998. In 2002, he moved to Serie B to play for Reggina.

However, he returned to the Americas a year later, joining Morelia of the Primera División de México for the 2003 Clausura. Álvarez played a significant role for the team that season, playing in 16 games, 13 starts, and scoring three goals. He remained a consistent starter for the team and started a total of 60 games for the team, scoring nine goals.

He has since moved to C.F. Pachuca, earning four championships with the team: Copa Sudamericana, two CONCACAF Champions' Cup, and the Mexican Clausura of 2007. Álvarez has been a significant member of those four championship teams.

In 2010 he moved to Tigres UANL and became a key for the 2011 Championship.

In 2012, Álvarez became a naturalized Mexican citizen after settling in Mexico in 2003. He was called up to the Mexican national football team on February 23 for a friendly against Colombia - in which Mexico lost 2-0.
