Dalton Park is a shopping centre in Murton, County Durham. It is built on the site of the former colliery's slag heaps. It is the largest factory outlet style shopping centre in the North East, where branded goods are sold at discounted prices, usually discontinued lines of stock. It was officially opened by Tara Palmer-Tompkinson on 10 April 2003, with the opening of Gap Outlet in October 2008.

At Dalton Park you can save up to 50% off high street prices on a wide range of top brands. There's over 60 outlet shops selling over 200 different brands plus 7 places for coffee or a snack. There's also a free children's play area and free 1200 space car park.

Alongside the shopping centre there is also 55 acres of landscaped parkland with three signposted walks and various wildlife habitats.

Developments

Following a recent High Court Judicial Review, Dalton Park has been given final go-ahead for ‘Phase 2’ of its development. The scheme will now proceed under the planning permission granted by Durham Council in March last year and work will now commence on detailed design and satisfying the planning conditions. It is anticipated that work will start on site within a year and take 12 months to complete.

The £35m project will complete the site’s regeneration programme and will include a food store, cinema, restaurants, petrol station, hotel and pub. In the region of 500 jobs will be created as a result of the development. Further announcements on the tenant line up will be made in the near future.

Since opening in 2003, Dalton Park has become one of the region’s top retail destinations with sales and visitor levels increasing year on year. Jerry Hatch, General Manager – outlets for Knight Frank, asset managers for Dalton Park, is delighted that Phase 2 approval has been granted in the outlet’s 10th anniversary year: “2013 is going to be a momentous year for us. We’ve already had a strong first quarter with positive sales and new openings and now Phase 2 marks an exciting new decade for us. The new scheme will not only enhance our retail offer but will service visitors both locally and regionally.”
