Dahod, on the banks of river Dudhimati, is a town-city in Dahod District within the State of Gujarat, India. The city serves as District Headquarters for Dahod District. It is approximately 200 km away from Ahmedabad and 150 km away from Vadodara. It is also known as Dohad (meaning "two boundaries", as the States of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh border the town). Dahod is a model town in Gujarat. It is the birthplace of the last great Mughal emperor, Aurangzeb.
Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb was born in the fort of Dahod in 1618, during the reign of Jehangir. Emperor Aurangzeb was said to have ordered his ministers to favour this town, as it was his birthplace.[citation needed] Tatya Tope, the freedom fighter, is known to have absconded in Dahod. He is believed to have lived his last days in this region.
It was previously within the boundaries of the Panchmahal District. The area of Godi Road, Godhra Road has been considerably developed, making the overall residence and commercial area very expansive. Urban Bank Hospital is situated here. The foundation stone for a Dental College has been recently laid by the trust of philanthropist Girdharlal Sheth.
Demographics
As of 2001, the India census,[1] valuated Dahod had a population of 791,685. Males constituted 52% of the population and females 48%. Dahod has an average literacy rate of 45.65%, lower than the national average of 59.5%.
Education
Dahod town has many educational institutions like Government Engineering College, Government Polytechnic, M.Y. High School, Little Flowers School and Jamali English School,R.L pandya high school St.Stephen's higher secondary school , Hindi higher secondary school,Hindi Primary School freelandgunj Sunrise public school among others.
Culture
Kachori is the main namkeen of the city. Dahod is also known for Son papadi, Mattha and Pakwan. Dahod is also a medical hub for the surrounding areas of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. During recent years real estate in Dahod has increased in value considerably.[citation needed] Some places in Dahod have land rates higher than in Ahmedabad.
The town's Najmi Masjeed mosque, inaugurated in 2002, is one of the largest mosques in the Dawoodi Bohra community.
Transport
Dahod is well connected by railways to Mumbai, New Delhi, Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Jabalpur, Ujjain, Ratlam, Kanpur, Amritsar Jaipur, Kota, etc. The important trains passing through are:

It is also very well connected by road and is situated on the arterial road connecting Ahemadabad-Vadodra to Indore. There is a helipad in Dahod.
