DR1 is a Danish national television channel, produced by the public service broadcaster, DR. It was the first television station to be established in Denmark, and began broadcasting in 1951 – at first only for an hour a day three times a week.
Today DR1 is DR's principal channel for news and current affairs coverage, although it also broadcasts entertainment and drama as well as other factual and cultural content. Its programming is designed to be of broad appeal to the whole spectrum of the Danish population.[4]
