DNV Software is now part of DNV GL. As of 12 September 2013, DNV and GL have merged to form DNV GL. DNV GL creates the world’s leading ship and offshore classification society and a world-leader of independent assurance and expert advisory services following the merger clearance by competition authorities.

DNV GL sells software for maritime design and engineering, strength assessment, risk and reliability, QHSE and asset integrity management. The software is delivered to various industries, including energy, process, maritime, petrochemical, refineries, and healthcare. Within the area of risk and reliability, DNV GL develops Quantitative risk assessment software.

DNV GL - Software has approximately 700 employees, and a revenue of approximately US$100 million. The headquarters are located at Høvik, in Bærum, Norway. In addition, DNV GL has offices in Stavanger, London, Glasgow, Rio de Janeiro, Houston, Dubai, Pusan, Shanghai, Beijing, Singapore and Mumbai. Its SESAM (FEM) (finite element method) software for strength assessment of fixed and floating structures was originally developed in the 1960s, and has been used ever since in design of oil and gas installations around the world. In June, 2011, DNV GL (previously DNV Software) acquired the Stavanger-based software company Synergi Solutions,[1][2] adding more than 500.000 users in 150 countries.[3]
