Dúrcal
Dúrcal is a Spanish municipality located in the north-eastern part of Lecrín Valley (Granada province), in the autonomous community of Andalusia, one of the 51 entities that make up the metropolitan area of Granada. It borders the municipalities of Dílar, Lanjaron Nigüelas Villamena and the Padul. Other nearby towns are Padul and Mondújar. The council consists of durqueño nuclei Dúrcal, which is the capital district Lecrín Valley, and Marchena. Much of its township is located in the Sierra Nevada National Park.
History
The singer and actress Rocio Durcal drew the name of this town at random from a map of Spain, which she would subsequently use as her stage name. She was therefore declared an adoptive daughter of Dúrcal and the city council named a street in her honour. The origin of Dúrcal goes back to the era of Muslim rule in the Iberian Peninsula. Its status as a must from Granada to the coast and its fertile land attracted to Arabs. Its name comes from the Arabic "Quasb", a term that refers to "cane sugar ", but plenty in terms of citrus orchards and other fruit. After the Reconquista carried out by Ferdinand and Isabella, the Moors were expelled from the area, Dúrcal being the starting point for many families heading north African Christian to escape pressure
