Cronulla railway station is a railway station on the Sydney Trains network, a short distance from Cronulla Beach of Sydney, Australia, on the Pacific Ocean. It is the eastern terminus of the Cronulla railway line. The station is unusual in that the two platforms are situated end to end, rather than side by side. The station has Easy Access for wheelchairs because the platforms are at street level.
History
From 1911 until 1932, steam trams operated a service between Cronulla and Sutherland. A single track railway line replaced the tram service, opening in December 1939. Under the CityRail Clearways Project, the two remaining single track sections of the Cronulla line were duplicated in 2010. As a result, train stabling east of Cronulla was replaced by stabling sidings opposite platform 2. Cronulla has the second longest platform in NSW, after Albury. Violence occurred in the station during the 2005 Cronulla riots.[1]
Platforms and services
As of the new Sydney Trains timetables on Sunday the 20th of October 2013: on weekdays the station is served by four trains per hour in each direction for most of the day, with additional trains provided during peak hours; and on weekends the station is served by four trains per hour in each direction for most of the day.
