Cristián Alejandro Cuevas Jara (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈkristjan ˈkweβas], born 2 April 1995) is a Chilean footballer who currently plays for Dutch Eredivise club FC Eindhoven on loan from Chelsea. Cuevas plays primarily as a left-back but can also operate as a left-winger.[1]

He plays for the Chile national under-20 team and has been picked to play in the South American Youth Championship. He competed in the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Turkey helping Chile going all the way into the Quarter- finals.

Club Career

O'Higgins

Cuevas began his career at O'Higgins with the club's youth team as a midfielder. He broke into the first team in May 2011, making his first competitive appearance on 8 May in a 5–1 loss against Colo-Colo.[2] Cuevas has continued to appear since, particularly in the Copa Chile.

Chelsea

In November 2012, it was reported that Cuevas had held a successful trial with Premier League club Chelsea following a number of good performances for the Chilean Under 20s team.[3] The deal was officially completed on 23 July 2013 and Cuevas signed a contract until 2018 with Chelsea.[4]

Loan to Vitesse

Shortly after signing for Chelsea, Cuevas was sent on a season long loan to the Eredivisie club Vitesse.[5] There he linked up with fellow Chelsea loanees Patrick van Aanholt, Gaël Kakuta, Lucas Piazón, Sam Hutchinson and Christian Atsu.

Loan to FC Eindhoven

On 7 February 2014, it was announced that Cuevas would spent the rest of the season on loan with FC Eindhoven in the Dutch Eerste Divisie.[6]
