Crabbie's Ginger Beer is a sparkling Ginger Beer produced by John Crabbie & Company in Edinburgh, Scotland since 2009.
Background
The ginger beer was created by a Scottish merchant named John Crabbie. Crabbie first imported ginger to make the beverage from the Far East into the port of Leith, Edinburgh in 1801.[2] The method use by Crabbie is still used today. Crabbie's is alcoholic (4.8%) and fermented ginger and steeped for up to eight weeks. The Ginger beer has a spiced flavor and a sparkling flavor similar to a carbonated beverage. Crabbie’s is typically chilled over ice with a slice of lemon or lime.[2][3][4]
Distribution
Since 2011 Crabbies has been distributed in Australia through Woolworths Liquor, Beer Wine Spirits and Dan Murphy's grocery stores. In 2012. Crabbies began distribution in the United States through St. Killian company [2]
Variations
In the UK, Crabbies is available in flavors such as spiced orange, strawberry & lime, and Scottish raspberry. Outside of the UK, variations might be found in specialty shops.
Sponsorship
Crabbies is the official sponsors of the Grand National Festival. The Grand National is a National Hunt horse race held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool, England. First run officially in 1839, it is a handicap steeplechase over 4 miles 3½ furlongs (7,141m) with horses jumping 30 fences over two circuits.[5] The next Grand National will be held on 5 April 2014.[6][7]
Scottish Premiership football club Hibernian is also sponsored by Crabbies.[8][9]
