Counties (Chinese: 縣; pinyin: xiàn; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: koān) are one of administrative divisions of Taiwan. They are directly governed by the central government after the provinces are streamlined. In the laws, counties with a population of over two million can become a quasi-municipality (準直轄市). Currently, this rule applies on Taoyuan County, which also scheduled to be upgraded to a special municipality in 2014.
