Company 3 (CO3) is a post production company founded in 1997 by colorists Stefan Sonnenfeld and Mike Pethel. A wholly owned subsidiary of Deluxe Entertainment Services Group, Inc., Company 3 provides high-end post production, color grading and location services for feature films, commercials, music videos and television.

History

Sonnenfeld and Pethel opened Company 3 in Santa Monica, CA in 1997 and launched a New York, NY location in 2002. In 2010, Company 3 New York moved into a new 30,000 square foot Digital Intermediate (DI) facility located in the heart of Chelsea, Manhattan which houses both Company 3 and its sister visual effects facility, Method Studios. In 2011, Company 3 added locations in London and Atlanta along with Chicago in 2012. CO3 has opened virtual outposts around the world, which allows clients to supervise grading sessions from remote locations in real time.

In 2000, Company 3, which was then a part of Four Media Company, was acquired by Liberty Media Corporation. In 2010, Deluxe Entertainment Services Group, Inc. acquired Company 3 along with its sister companies Beast Editorial, Encore, Level 3 Post, Method Studios, RIOT and Rushes. Sonnenfeld now serves as President and Managing Director of Company 3 as well as President of Creative Services for Deluxe.

Company 3 is a pioneer of the movie color timing process known as digital intermediate (DI) that allows artists to enhance the director and cinematographer's vision of a movie. Digital enhancements range from changes within the frame to overall color correction.

Company 3/Deluxe is one of the largest owners of Spirit DataCine Telecines.[1][2]
