Cole Beasley (born April 26, 1989) is an American football wide receiver for the Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League. He was signed by the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2012. He played college football at Southern Methodist University.
High school career
As a high school quarterback, Beasley led Little Elm High School to the Texas UIL-4A playoffs consecutive years.[1] Coming out of high school, he was rated as a Two star recruit by Rivals.com.[2]
College career
Beasley then shifted to Wide Receiver for SMU, and performed well there, despite his height.[3] SMU would win the 2009 Hawai'i Bowl marking the first bowl invite since the so-called death penalty.[4]
Professional career
He failed to make the 2012 NFL Draft, but was signed by Dallas, and made the Cowboys' 53-man roster for the 2012 season. During training camp, he abruptly left, stating he was dealing with "Personal Stuff". He went on to have a sudden change of heart[5] and then made the final 53-man roster.
Cole Beasley has found a way to be productive while being surrounded by a solid corps of receivers. As of December 3rd, 2013 Beasley had the highest completion percentage of any receiver in the NFL with more than 10 targets. [6] He is becoming known as a man Romo will target, especially on third down in a spread formation. He has made several clutch catches to keep eventual scoring drives alive. [7] Much of this is attributed to Cole's excellent route execution. [8] He scored a touchdown against the Broncos on October 3, 2013.
