Cogne (Italian pronunciation: [ˈkɔɲɲe], French pronunciation: [kɔɲ][1]) is a town and comune in Aosta Valley, northern Italy, with 1439 inhabitants, as of 2012.

Geography

Cogne is located in the valley with the same name, leading to the Gran Paradiso massif Ibex, wild goat, marmots, royal eagles are easy to see. Many walks and hikes of different level, to lakes, waterlfalls and other natural attraction.

In front of chief town, called "Veulla" (from the local language, means city center), there is a wide expanse of lawns called "Prati di Sant'Orso" (webcam),[2] in which it is forbidden to build.

Around the chief town there are 5 valley:

  • south, Valnontey, leading to the Gran Paradiso;
  • north, Grauson valley;
  • south-east, Urtier valley and Valleille;
  • east, Gimillan valley.

Sport

Cogne is an international center of cross country skiing with 70 km. There are also 9 km down hill, many walks on the snow and more than 140 icefalls. During the summer are very popular hiking and mountain biking.[3]
