Cockroach plant
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The name cockroach plant (also known as Actimpatli, Atempatli, Cockroachplant, Hierba de la Cucaracha, and Raiz de la Cucaracha) refers to three closely related Haplophyton species (Haplophyton cimicidum, Haplophyton cinereum, and Haplophyton crooksii) of perennial shrub native to Central America and the American Southwest. The plant's common name derives from its leaf extracts and sap, which contain many insecticidal compounds, such as the indole alkaloid aspidophytine, particularly effective against cockroaches.
