Rugby
In 2004, Newman reached the URBA semi-finals, one of its most important achievements, since they have never won any championships. In 2008, Newman reached the URBA TOP 14 final. In 2012 they reached semi-finals and in 2013 too. The current captain of the team is Javier "el negro" Urtubey, and the sub-captain, Alfredo Cordone. The trainers are Ramiro Varela, Manuel Contepomi and Mariano Gastaldi. Nevertheless, in 2013, Felipe Contepomi came back to Newman. He is known as the best player in Puma´s history.
Most of Newman Club players originated from Colegio Cardenal Newman (Cardinal Newman College), a Bachelor degree institute, located in San Isidro, Buenos Aires, founded by the order of The Christian Brothers. The school is noted for its elitism in admission, and important people from wealthy families have graduated there, such as Mauricio Macri, Alfonso Prat Gay, and more snob people. The congregation member of the Roman Catholic Church, arrived to Argentina with a mission: "Fight the Good Fight (in Latin: Certa Bonum Certamen). Educate men with the vision of his founder, Edmund Ignatius Rice 1762–1844. Honesty, loyalty, solidarity, and deep moral values; give them the strength to fight for good causes, with honor and moral integrity".
Notable rugby players who started their careers in Newman include Cristián Viel, Agustín Canalda, Francisco Irrarázabal, Felipe Contepomi, Manuel Contepomi, Marcos Ayerza, Gonzalo Gutierrez Taboada, Miguel Urtubey, Marcos Bollini and Agustin Gosio.
