Clint Stanaway (born 17 December 1982) is an Australian television sports journalist.

Stanaway is currently weekend sport presenter and reporter for Nine News in Melbourne.

Education

Stanaway holds a Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Commerce from Deakin University. It was his practical experience in GTV-9's news library during his university studies that inspired him to pursue a career in journalism.

Career

In 2002, Clint began his television career at Bendigo's WIN News in 2002.

Stanaway joined the Melbourne's Nine News in 2005 as a General News Reporter.

While at Nine News in this role, Clint covered many significant news events including the Cardross road accident near Mildura, Victoria, where six young lives were lost in a tragic hit and run, Beaconsfield Mine collapse and dramatic Mine Rescue of two trapped miners, and the Nine Network's coverage of the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games.

In 2007, Stanaway moved to London, where he was employed as a world news reporter and producer for British Sky Broadcasting.

During his time abroad, Clint also worked as a European correspondent for Nine News.

Stanaway has also reported from Mexico on the deadly Swine Flu crisis and the 2011 Cricket World Cup in India.

In 2011, Clint returned to Melbourne's Nine News and while continuing to work as a sports reporter.

In July 2011, Stanaway was appointed weekend sport presenter replacing Lisa Andrews.

Clint travelled to London for the 2012 Summer Olympics, where he worked as a reporter in Nine's award-winning Olympic team.

Influences and inspiration

Stanaway cites fellow Nine News sport presenter, Tony Jones, who has been pivotal in his career growth and transition from research to producer to reporter and now to sports presenter. Clint has said of this mentor, "I get advice from him (Tony Jones) almost everyday. His experience and encouragement is invaluable."[1]

Awards and Recognition

  • The Metropolitan Fire Brigade (MFB) awarded Stanaway the MFB's Fire Safety award in acknowledgement of his exclusive story which exposed the potential dangers of down lights and home insulation.[2]
  • Clint was selected as one of Cleo's 50 Most Eligible Bachelors in 2012.[3]
