City University (Bengali: সিটি ইউনিভার্সিটি) or CU is a private university in Banani, Dhaka, Bangladesh. It was established in 2002. The language of instruction is English, The University offers undergraduate and master's degrees in the fields of Business Administration, Computer Science, Textile Engineering, Law, English, etc. This university is going to start the Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering and Department of Pharmacy in 2012. It also offers courses for general and continuing education.
Zillur Rahman, President of Bangladesh, is the chancellor. Professor Dr. NRM Borhan Uddin is vice chancellor. The school has sufficient full- and part-time faculty members, all of whom, as a requirement, possess postgraduate qualifications from abroad: most of them from the United States, United Kingdom, Japan, Canada and Russia.
City University started its own campus from spring semester 2011 at the place adjacent to Ashulia Model Town and BRAC University, Ashulia, Savar. The permanent campus of City University was inaugurated by the honorable minister of the Ministry of Education Nurul Islam Nahid on 29 September 2011. This place is a 40-minute drive from the main city. The main campus has been designed by an architect of BUET, providing facility of play grounds, cafeteria, gymnasium, dormitories for male and female students and teachers.
Facilities
The university provides four computer laboratories, one digital laboratory, physics and chemistry laboratories, an extensive Textile laboratory and On-Campus Job facilities for its students.
Library
The library is the backbone of the research and development activities of City University. It is an integral part of the university and designed to meet the information, research, and curriculum needs of its students, faculty and staff members. It has comprehensive collections to meet the needs of its users. The library provides services designed to support students, faculty members, researchers, and staff members. All members are encouraged to examine, consult, borrow and browse through any book, journal, printed/non-printed materials, on-line resources, and receive other services of the library.
Professionally trained personnel are responsible for the care of library and its contents, including the selection, processing, and organization of materials and the delivery of information, instructions, and loan services to meet the needs of its users.
